Loss, Grief, and Honest Hope: Clinical Work at Times of Persistent Uncertainty

Presenter: Ted Bowman, MDiv

Course Description

While the world is always changing, this time the changes came rapidly and persisted. Conversations have been dominated by the pandemic, vaccines, racial injustice, the future of school, work and community routines, and now war. This is testing stamina, spirit, and resilience.  Add a persistent and/or ambiguous medical or mental health condition, stress, and distress can grow. Add deaths or other life changes, and the clinical challenges multiply.

This session will help raise awareness of emotional and decision fatigue, anxiety, and grief with an emphasis on loss and grief care for uncertain times. This is a recorded Zoom event from June 21st, 2022 for 2 CEUs.

Learning Objectives

  • Name and discuss three or more “take-aways” from the session for their work.
  • Discern perspectives and tools for addressing ambiguity and uncertainty experienced by clients.
  • Assess their own comfort for addressing losses experienced by clients and develop a plan for future work based on changes made during the pandemic.
