Mike Chovanec, Ph.D., MSW, LICSW, LMFT

1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month 4:30-6:30 PM on Zoom

The supervision groups provide 4 hours of clinical supervision at a reduced fee to members of the Clinical Society. There are currently two groups. Membership is limited to 6 group members per BOSW rules. There are two co-supervisors for each group. They split the responsibility for Board of Social Work requirements.

One group meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month and the second group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month.  Both meet from 4:30 -6:30. Fees are self-determined and range from $20-$40 per 2-hour session.

Each prospective group member meets with one of the supervisors for a pre-group interview to answer questions, and determine learning needs and goals. Although the group is held on an online platform, professional behavior is expected.

Group content centers on the development of the social workers utilizing a case presentation format. Each group member presents at least once a month. When a group member leaves the group a termination process helps the group member and the group evaluate and process the experience.

To provide an optimal learning environment, a commitment of 6 months (24 hours) is required. As in all clinical supervision, it takes time to establish trust and the sense of safety necessary to expose one’s work. Being in a group adds another dimension. Entering and leaving the group more frequently is disruptive to the group process and limits learning.

Group Norms:

  1.   All communication goes to both supervisors
  2.   Prior notification if unable to attend
  3.   Be present with your video on for the entire session
  4.   No eating during group
  5.   Fees are payable monthly
