Course Description

This presentation will discuss common mental health and cognitive concerns in older adults, including depression, suicide, anxiety, dementia, and delirium. We will cover common presentations, diagnosis, treatment, and important clinical considerations.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will be able to identify common symptoms and treatments for depression and anxiety.
  • Attendees will learn about frequent risk factors and prevention strategies for suicidality in older adults.
  • Attendees will be able to describe frequent symptoms of dementia and delirium and how to distinguish these conditions in older adults.

Presenter Bio

Dr. Rebecca Rossom is a Geriatric Psychiatrist and Senior Investigator at HealthPartners Institute and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. She has clinical and research backgrounds in mental health conditions and their treatment across age groups, including older adults. Dr. Rossom was an attending physician in the Center for Memory and Aging at HealthPartners for many years, and now does full-time clinical research funded by NIH, including studies aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment of depression, serious mental illness, and opioid use disorder and the prevention of suicide, among others.
