Religious Trauma and the Road to Reclamation

Presenter: Kendra Snyder, MA, LMFT, NCC

Course Description

This is a recorded webinar from October 13, 2025.

Religious trauma can disrupt identity, attachment, and nervous system regulation—particularly for those emerging from high-control, spiritually abusive systems. This training equips clinicians to recognize the nuanced impacts of religious trauma and spiritual abuse, understand the complex grief of deconstruction, and support clients in reclaiming self-trust, agency, and meaning. Grounded in trauma-informed, somatic, and identity-affirming frameworks, this session offers practical tools and clinical insights for fostering healing, resilience, and authentic self-expression in the aftermath of spiritual harm.

Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will have greater knowledge and understanding of various key terms related to religious trauma and spiritual abuse.
  • Attendees will gain insight into key themes related to religious trauma and spiritual abuse as they relate to clinical care of clients.
  • Attendees will explore and gain insight into the multifaceted nature of deconstruction as well as reclamation work.
