Hello, MSCSW community,
I’m honored to introduce myself to you as your new President. Stepping into this role is both humbling and exciting, and I’m grateful for the trust the Board and membership have placed in me.
Before I say anything about the road ahead, I want to pause and recognize Monica Sowden. Monica led this organization through some genuinely difficult years — through the uncertainty and disruption our communities faced this past winter, through hard conversations, and through steady, thoughtful leadership that never lost sight of why we do this work.
Under her presidency, MSCSW grew stronger: membership expanded, new community-building initiatives like The Collective Cup took root, and the organization found itself able to give back in real, tangible ways. Monica, thank you for your dedication and your care of MSCSW. It’s a privilege to build on the foundation you helped create.
This newsletter goes out as we head into our Annual Event, and I hope you’ll join us. It’s a chance to look back together — to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve struggled with — and to look forward, as we shape what’s next for MSCSW. If you haven’t been closely involved with the organization before, this is a great entry point: come see what we’re about, meet fellow clinical social workers, and find a way to plug in that fits you.
As I settle into this role, I’m looking forward to deepening the community connections MSCSW has been building, expanding access across greater Minnesota, and supporting members through an uncertain landscape. I don’t have the answers, and I don’t think any one person should.
This organization works because so many of you show up, volunteer your time, and care about the people we serve and each other. I’m looking forward to listening, learning, and working alongside you.
